Oct 26, 2015 10:40 AM in response to neilbelstockby Raymond Riley,Did you try "Search all add-ons" in the upper right corner of the Add-Ons Manager Window?
For some reason, QuickTime plugin is not listed in the plugins list but is still available to Firefox when clicked to activate. Don't really know why this is. If you are not seeing it appear when you search for it in the Add-Ons Manager, you may not have the plugin installed and available in the Finder (Library/Internet Plugins folder). Somebody please correct me if Firefox stores a copy of the QuickTime plugin elsewhere.

Oct 26, 2015 2:43 PM in response to neilbelstockby Raymond Riley,Are you still running Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger). If so, you may need to run an earlier version of QuickTime that came with that Mac OS.
Here is a download page for previous versions of QuickTime. Looks like QuickTime 7.6.4 was last version for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger:
https://support.apple.com/downloads/quicktime
Then confirm you have the plugin installed in the Internet Plugins (.../Library/Internet Plugins)
Firefox should be able to enable the plugin and allow you to choose whether to Ask to Activate or Always Activate when you come across a page that makes a call to the plugin. I'm running Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and Firefox 41.0.2

Well, that changes everything! If you had QuickTime plugin installed before updating to El Capitan, your QuickTime plugin has been disabled and placed in a folder "Disabled Plugins".
There is considerable discussion about this on this list. Here is Apple's after the fact support doc:
