Q: my mac does not start up. only grey screen then shuts off

When I press the power button to start my 27" Mac it gets a gray screen with the Apple logo and a progress bar. Before the progress bar starts, the computer shuts off? What's the rememdy?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), iOS 8.4

Try starting in Safe mode

If that works, then you most likely have a 3rd party addition that is interfering with normal boot. You can use EtreCheck to show you all your 3rd party additions <https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6174>
