can't print to Lexmark X5270 (printer model is not in the "Print Using" box

I recently purchased this iMac and cannot get the printer installed correctly. It all seems to be going well during the install -- the printer shows connected to USB in the print browser. I select it, but when I go to the "Print Using..." drop down box my model of the Lexmark printer is not there! I tried downloading the driver for MAC OS X from Lexmark, but it is a weird file that the Mac does not recognize ("5200 Series Web Installer...sit") So I select the general driver from the drop down and add the printer. Whenever I try to print something, whether it's a simple text file or a drawing the printer does not respond.

Please help!!

Hi there,

I think you will find that like the Canon BJ's, the Lexmark utility should automatically set to the model of printer you have in the Print Using menu, rather than you having to browse for it. This would mean that the application to do this would have to be installed and preferably written in Universal for your Intel iMac.

Therefore you will have to use the Lexmark application you downloaded. The .sit is a Stuffit file. You can download Stuffit Expander for free ( http://www.stuffit.com/mac/index.html) and once the file is unpacked there should be an installer that will add the necessary files to your iMac. Once this is done, you should find that when you select the printer in the Printer List, the Print Using menu will change to the correct driver and allow you to print.

Regards,

Paul
