Q: Is iCloud compatible with Outlook 2016

I have posted to Apple's Feedback on the matter of iCloud for Windows not working with Outlook 2016. It is a shame that with the outcry under several related questions that all lead back to the failure of Apple to do whatever coding was necessary to make iCloud for Windows (with the iCloud Add-in for Outlook - to refresh the sync across user accounts and calendars and contacts (Tasks and Notes too).

I do encourage others who cannot get the iCloud to work with Outlook 365 - 2016 to write about your problem and the futile efforts you have made attempting to get iCloud to work so you can get on with the real reason and work you need this productivity tools for. Use http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html to post your message to the Feedback (web form) in support that we hope someone is reading.

Hi. I followed your advice in filling the feedback form on iCloud malfunction. I kept posting here for the last week and didn't succeed in getting any coherent solution. I am having the same problem running Windows 10 64-bit and Office 2010. I have also tried Outlook 2016 with the exact same problem of inability to sync Outlook contacts, e-mail and calendars. It's a shame for Apple, isn't it?

If you feel like wasting some time and becoming totally frustrated, try calling Apple's tech support. They'll tell you it's Microsoft's responsibility to fix the problem. Then call Microsoft's tech support where you'll find out that it's Apple's responsibility.

In fairness, none of the folks who answer the phone at either place is responsible for the problem . . . they're just reading their scripts. But at least it's another place to register your very legitimate gripe about this issue and the failure of either/both companies to resolve it.

My phone contract is up, and I at the same time I had to replace my laptop.  These discussions steered me away from an iMac.  Next stop, ditch the iPhone?  Then I won't have to bother with Apple's sloppiness, but honestly will I just be trading for problems with another manufacturer?

    Hi BWWiggs,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are having difficulties with iCloud and Outlook 2016 and know this can be a very frustrating situation. Currently Outlook 2016 is not compatible with iCloud for Windows. In the meantime, if you are using Outlook 2016, you can access iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars on iCloud.com. Support for Outlook 2016 will be available in a soon to be released update.

iCloud for Windows currently supports Outlook 2007 through Outlook 2013. Support for Outlook 2016 will be available in an updated release soon. If you use Outlook 2016, you can access iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars on iCloud.com.

Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support

    Cheers!

    Hi joe_7399,

There are no cheers to be had on this mess. This statement from the Apple website '...if you are using Outlook 2016, you can access iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars on iCloud.com. Support for Outlook 2016 will be available in a soon to be released update." seems to assume that we are doing most of our work on an iOS device and sit with it open to calendar and or contacts while working in Outlook 2016 to get work done. It is an empty and nearly arrogant statement for Apple iCloud Team at support to make. It is insulting that Apple's iCloud team or higher support and or administration have not escalated and moves this resolution forward for now more than 9 months and with more that 60,000 posts that go back to the problem in several different questions posted here in the self help discussions. Where is APPLE? Someone needs to send these issues and the chatter from these discussion up to the iCloud Team and whoever is t the higher management level in the APPLE Org.

This all worked seamlessly when I was still using Outlook 2013, with Windows 10 Pro and iCloud for Windows version 5. The only thing that changed with the install of Office 365 subscription and the desktop Office 2016 (Outlook 2016 - a full install so that Office 2013 does not appear on my system in anyway now.

My Brother in Law, an Android OS lover, has teased me for years that I use a Fruit Phone. Well, I have to agree with him now that my fruit phone cannot sync with my PC's Outlook 2016 calendar, contacts, notes and tasks. I really want Apple to monitor this post and send it to somewhere in the org that has some clout and can light fires under the people who solve these problems. My feedback question are never answered personally or in anyway on the support site that give me any sense that Apple iCloud Team is supporting us and knows what the critical problem is. FILE TYPES dropped by Microsoft used in iOS calendar and contacts. DROPPED! Why and more importantly, how does APPLE work around it for us so that syncing works? IS Microsoft playing corporation gotcha with Apple? If so, Apple has allowed it to affect tens of thousands of users and a number that grows as user of upgrade to Office 2016 and have not idea they are committing themselves to a disconnect in the important linking data used to do most business and personal communications and interactions.

Yes, I have a Fruit Phone and Tablet. My association with Apple is becoming a basket of rotting apples.

    Dear BWWiggs,

Congratulations for your bravado and your direct, outspoken, and realistic approach! I couldn't agree more. For your information as well as everyone else's in this open discussion forum, Apple's support community reaction to my posts all relating to this very issue, was to delete my posts on the grounds that I induced people for a petition against the company! Can you imagine?

Anyways, I remain flabbergasted and furious against such a sheer incompetence, indifference and total lack of professionalism on behalf of this company. It leaves a lot to be desired and I only wish that this negative publicity spreads as hard and as fast as possible.

    Hi Alabama591,

Thanks for the kudos. I have tried to push his mess using a direct contact with an adviser associated with the iCloud Team and weekly post to the feedback to that team. I have pulled no punches but not tried to get any collective action other than to encourage others to send message on the iCloud.com feedback page since that supposedly is where they get messages from users. We must remain vigilant if we want this solved.

I do think that Microsoft dodged a bullet on this since it was their action and for what reason we do not know to remove the two critical file types in the Office 2016 (365) version of Office. I don't have the energy to struggle with MS support and get to the level where someone even knows what we are talking about much less is tasked with correcting it. Apple should handle dealing with MS (in an ideal world). I don't think that the cooperation we need exist between the two companies or their support staffs.

I am about to write the adviser since I have heard knowing from her in 2 weeks and then try to do another feedback. I was diverted from the Genius Bar and promised that and adviser would call me back with I was ready o take all my equipment in and spread it across the bar and see what a Genius could do. The lady who overheard me explain why I wanted to speak with the Genius Bar understood the problem. I suspect she had heard it many times already.

I was looking at the early replacement of my iPhone a night or so ago and it will not cost me much to do an early terminated and buy another phone for my mobile service. Before I would do this I need to investigate how Windows Phone and Android OS' work with Outlook 2016 of the desktop. I don't need to jump into the fire. As for a mobile phone or tablet I am not impressed with other devices or the Andriod OS. I have a feeling that the Windows mobile may not offer to many apps that I use on my iDevices. I also don't want to add another OS to contend with if I don't have to.

I am going to write a letter to Tim Cook by the end of next week if this is not fixed by then. Keep posting to feedback.

Hi all the trooper who have been following this problem,

iCloud 5.1 was released today and I have successfully installed it, synced in both directions and have the iCloud Add-in to refresh running just fine. I just need to undo some work-arounds I did that added to the use of critical file space on my iPhone and to get my POP3 email reporting into Outlook and my iDevices without the transfers to IMAP email addressed.

I hope this install goes well for everyone.

It did for me! Thanks everyone for keeping this issue alive, till we finally got a result. I don't mind Apple behaving like 1984 "Big Bother" and deleting unpleasant content for them from our posts. It's the result that counts!Keep up the good work.

I installed 5.1, the add-in was installed in Outlook 2016 and my calendar and contacts still do not work.

I get the message: "The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened" when I try to open either one.

I rebooted a second time and it still does not work. It is really a travesty that what are supposed to be the world's two biggest software giants

either cannot or will not fix something like this, which is costing me time and money because I cannot access my data! Perhaps a lawsuit

    might get their attention...

Is Android having this problem? If not, perhaps it's time to change.

How do I make iCloud calendar my default calendar, when I click on the calendar icon within Outlook 2016?  ... or is that too much to ask of either Microsoft or Apple?  Right now, I click on the calendar (lower left) and up comes my (empty) Outlook calendar on the laptop, not iCloud which I have to go select.

There are lots of threads related to prior versions of Outlook, but I can't find anything for 2016, File/Options doesn't seem to provide it, and right-clicking comes up with nothing.  Did I miss something?
