My file size doubled after starting to use Photo. My file sizes read about 400gig for iPhoto and about 450gig for Photo. that leaves little space on my 1tb drive. How do I get more space..how do I get the file sharing to work?

Actually you've only added maybe 20 G to the storage due to the fact that both of the libraries make use of the same image data on the hard drive via hard links. As you add more photos to the Photos library it will grow but not the iPhoto library. Only the image files in the iPhoto library at the time of migration are shared with the Photos library this way.

No it hasn't. Essentially what's happening here is that both apps claim to manage 400 or so gigs of data, but it's the same data, as they are linked using Unix Hard Links.

So when I go to the apple and about this computer and hit the storage tab and I says I have 50GB on remaining storage . I really have 450GB of storage and I shouldn't be looking for ways to increase the storage avalable?
Yes. Eventually, when you are happy with one or other app, you can delete the other library.
Do you get the same numbers if you Control (right) - click on your HD icon on the Desktop, select Get Info from the contextual menu and check the Info pane for available space?
