My file size doubled with Photo vs iPhoto

My file size doubled after starting to use Photo. My file sizes read about 400gig for iPhoto and about 450gig for Photo. that leaves little space on my 1tb drive. How do I get more space..how do I get the file sharing to work?

MacBook (13-inch Late 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Actually you've only added maybe 20 G to the storage due to the fact that both of the libraries make use of the same image data on the hard drive via hard links. As you add more photos to the Photos library it will grow but not the iPhoto library. Only the image files in the iPhoto library at the time of migration are shared with the Photos library this way.
