Q: Sending/receiving texts

This week, my iPad has suddenly stopped sending/receiving texts but only iMessages. Nothing has been altered on my iPad or iPhone and has been fine for the best part of 10 months till now. My iPhone has stopped giving any text alert sounds too. I'm a bit of a technophobe so tend not to alter anything without advice. Any suggestions please?

Hopefully you understand the iPad is not a cellular telephone, and has no text message (SMS, MMS) capability itself. You can, however, use your iPad with your iPhone to send/receive SMS and MMS.
