Q: Sending email from iPhone 6

My iPhone 6 & mini-iPad cannot send email but my iPod touch can.  All the settings seem to be correct and the steps provided in this article do NOT work; I've tried them multiple times. Any help welcome.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.1

What happens when you attempt to send mail from the iPhone 6 and the iPad Mini? Do you see an error? If so, what is it? What other troubleshooting have you tried on the two devices that do not work?

HI:  I get the msg that my UN or PW are incorrect for my email.  It gets more interesting:  went to a Verizon store for help where they told me it was a Verizon email issue with smartphones & I should call tech support.  Did that today and spent over an hour with a Verizon Apple tech who tried changing the incoming/outgoing servers to a Yahoo address, nothing worked.  She sent me back to Verizon saying it's an email issue.  Talked to someone there who said I had to call Apple support.  Before all of this, I deleted the account on all 3 of my Apple devices, shut them down, then one by one added it back, all with the same account info.  NOW, the ipod touch and the mini-ipad can send emails, just my iphone 6 still cannot. All the account info is exactly the same on the phone as the other devices, including the servers and port #.  Even updated the settings on the account in my Outlook on home workstation.  AND, the software is the same on the ipad mini and iphone, 9.1.  NUTHIN working!  Thanks for your interest.

Are you attempting to send the mail on the iPhone with Wi-Fi or with cellular data? Generally when you receive the error that you describe, it has to do with the SMTP server. That is the part of mail that handles sending mail. I do know that Yahoo mail is famous for having problems on iOS devices. Is this a POP or IMAP account? I know that Yahoo is generally IMAP, but you should check on the phone what it says. Since it seems you are handing the mail on multiple devices, I'm guessing it is IMAP. If you go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>select the account and then go to SMTP server. After you tap on that, do you see more than one entry under Primary Server? If you tap on that server, that should take you to the Settings page. If you do, verify that all of the settings there are exactly what they are on the other devices, especially the username and password, since that is the error you are seeing. Double check the SSL, Authentication, and Port settings as well.

I'm using cellular data not wi-fi and it's a POP account, verizon.net, not Yahoo. I don't have a Yahoo account.  There is only one server as primary and it is SMTP.verizon.net.  The SSL, authentication and port settings are all the same. BUT I just now tried sending using wi-fi from my phone (connecting to my home router) and THAT did work. What does that mean though, something with the SMTP server as you suggested?  I have a data plan and didn't have to do that before; plus, if I can only send when using wi-fi, that's a pain.  But I guess I have more ammunition for the Verizon tech folks!  Thanks for your time and input.

Well, you mentioned the Yahoo settings in your earlier post. It is possible that port settings for cellular are different than they are on Wi-Fi, however only Verizon could tell you that. Let them know that it is a sending problem, what your SMTP settings are, as well as SSL and Authentication settings, and that it works on Wi-Fi. So, ask if there is a different setting if mail is using cellular data, or if there is a port that allows for both. Also, check on your phone in Settings>Cellular>and make sure that Cellular Data is turned on and that the switch by Mail is turned on down lower on the list.
