I am a professional photographer for an art museum and am looking for an application for my casual fun stuff to make photo albums with. Which is the best application between Aperture vs iPhoto? I shoot with a Canon Powershot Elf, Canon 5D ll and a Hasselblad H4D so the file sizes vary. I would appreciate feedback on which App to use.

Aperture allows you more control over the layout of your books. You can define custom themes and arrange the contents freely.
The quality of the books is the same for iPhoto books or Aperture books.
However, Apple stopped the development of both Aperture and iPhoto, so you can neither buy iPhoto not Aperture any longer. New Macs come with the Photos.app that is part of MAcOS X 10.103 or newer.
You can create books in Photos as well, but with less layout options than in iPhoto or Aperture.
Did El Capitan add any layouts? I think it is important to point out that Photos is very much a work in progress and will improve with each OS release.

Indeed, it is work in progress, and Photos 1.2 is already considerably more versatile than Photos 1.
But I did not detect any new advanced features in the books or slideshows. The books look stunning, but we have not much control over the layout.
