I understand that you would like to use Smart Folders to categorize applications that were downloaded from the Mac App Store. Let's see if we can get that working for you.
You can create a Smart Folder, but sorting by where they were downloaded from is not one of those options. You can sort by Kind, which will be Applications, documents, images as well as many others. You also have Last Opened, Last Modified, Created, Name, Contents. For more details, take a look at the first link for some general information about Smart Folders.

If you want to have the apps that were downloaded from the Mac App Store, you would have to create a folder for those yourself. You can have the organization setup in Launchpad to click and drag apps into folders for your type of organization. I know having the option to do it quicker with a Smart Folder would be ideal for you, buy this is still something that can be accomplished and at least you can taylor it to your needs as opposed to modifiers of a Smart Folder. For more details, take a look at the next link for some basics on Launchpad.
