Q: won't boot past white screen

I haven't had any issues with my macbook pro mid 2012. i put in sleep and closed the lap. When I woke up this morning to turn it on, It boots, you hear the sound, but it just stays on the white screen. I've tried booting into the install disc, safe mode and holding down option to get the boot menu. It doesn't do anything past the white screen.
