view 2 windows together

HI. Could anyone tell me how to watch 2 windows on the same screen on my Mac Pro at the same time? A friend said to hold down the green button in the corner then let go but that only makes my screen a touch bigger or back to regular size. I want to watch a design class and see photoshop at the same time.
