Q: Can't get Compressor to use ALL cores!

Hi folks,

I have a 3.5 hour long DV movie which I want to output to the 'apple devices HD (best quality) setting. I did change the bit rate to 6 mbps. The same occurs for both single and multi pass.

The DV is exported from Final Cut X.  720 x 480 NTSC etc..  It also has chapters.

The machine is a 12 core 2.7 with 16 GB Ram. Looking at Apple's kb article, it says I can use 5 instances.

But when I run Compressor 4.2.1 with either those 5 instances selected or that option off, I get the following in Act. Monitor. Ie. it doesn't change!

So, what am I doing wrong? I must be doing something silly because why else wouldn't this horsepower machine just use ALL the cores when I want!

Nothing else seems to be taking any % of CPU power on my Mac.

FCX isn't open and no other app except Safari is either.

I've always fought with Compressor...it's never run the way I need it. (quite possibly with some lack of understanding on my part, but honestly, should it be that difficult to harness the full power of this expensive Mac?)  lol

TIA,

Brian
