Seagate hard drive not detected

Greetings,

I use a 1 TB Seagate portable hard drive. It was perfectly functional a few days ago and it was exFAT formatted. But when I was playing music from my hard drive, my laptop hanged and it has stopped detecting the hard drive ever since .

I also tried Disk Utility and checked out About This Mac > Overview > System Report > USB and the hard drive is not recognisable over there. I used a pen drive in both the USB ports and the ports are working perfectly fine.

Also, whenever I insert the hard drive inside the port, it makes a weird whizzing sound and the light blinks on and off and eventually dies.

Please help, I have tonnes of music i my hard drive that I do not wish to lose!

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
