Apple TV Cutting off Picture

Hello,

My Apple TV is cutting off the picture about an inch or so around all 4 edges of the screen. The 'overscan' option on the Apple TV is selected. I mostly notice this happening with YouTube videos, but I've also noticed it when I'm using AirPlay to watch videos from my computer.

The TV I am using is a Samsung. Model # HL-S6187W. I've played around with all of the picture settings I could find, but I've had no luck. As far as I know, I have everything set to 16:9 and the Apple TV resolution is set to auto. I've played around with the resolution through the Apple TV and no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Using overscan will have exactly that effect - it expands the picture slightly so that a small margin all round does not show. (It dates from the days of analogue television when there were often unwanted artefacts at the top an bottom of the picture, and indeed some channels still place irritating white dots and dashes at the top of the transmitted image.) The auto resolution presumably simply chooses how the device reacts to 16 x 9 and 4 x 3 material

Your television may very well also be in overscan - most TVs are set like this by default. My Sony can change to showing the full picture, but only on the HDMI inputs. I don't know about Samsungs, you would need to delve into the setting. At present you may in effect have double overscan going on.
