"Copying message"popup when deleting emails

Since installing El Capitan, whenever I delete an email from Apple Mail, I get a small popup at the bottom of my mailbox menu that says,"Copying message." I don't think this happened previously. Why is it happening now, and where is the copy going?

I also noticed this and my guess is that something in Yosemite changed and the actual process of deleting an email is copying it to the trash folder and Apple just didn't prevent that message from showing in the status bar during email deletion. Seems to be a silly mistake on their part as it is pretty annoying to see that message flash in the corner of your eye every time you delete an email....
