Did you see my answer to your post in the other thread?

And, if the original owner wants it back, it is understandable as it was their property when it was stolen. You will most likely need to return it - do ask them if they were paid for the loss by their insurance. If so, I'd try to work out a deal since they were compensated for the loss. As for the seller from ebay - report him and ask for his address for the authorities with the note that he is selling stolen property.

FWIW, I just did an ebay search for r2; found one with 342 rating, but I could not find any computer sales listed at all (in the reviews); also, he has a 100% rating.

Of course you saw positive ratings and no computers sold , the reason EBay sight only lets you see 6 months of sales and ratings

the sale of the iMac took place two years ago. When my friend who actually bought the computer and has avery high reputation on EBay reported this to EBay , they gave up the real name and phone number of this person, and don't forget there are records from the Pay Pal transaction, and now there is a police investigation , my story is a tale of caution ... Always ask for the serial number of any used computer you are buying, and Apple has a record of the original owner.

Sorry you got taken. I hope that you can track down the owner with the help of the police. Like our good friend babowa said above, they may have collected an insurance claim and you might 'work something out'.

To that end - regarding the police...

The shipping Waybill on the package delivered to you should list a point of origin (like a return address if the package was 'undeliverable') - maybe even the thief's address, if you are lucky - the police in that city are the ones you should contact. Since the crime most likely took place there, they have jurisdiction - not your local police, who will likely do nothing (bigger local fish to fry)
