Pause the download process of OS X El Capitan and Shut down. URGENT

Hey everyone,

I am downloading the OS X El Capitan on my MacBook Pro (Early 2011) OS X Yosemite. Its been downloading from several hours now and I need to shut down my MacBook. My question is that if I pause the download process of the upgrade and shut down my laptop then will the downloading process resume from where it got paused when I will turn it on again or will it start from the very beginning? I will wait for a prompt reply. Thank you.

Don't rely on that, you may start at the beginning again.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Its gonna take around 10 hours more. If I just plug in my power cord and leave it like that for 10 hours so will it harm the battery of my MacBook? Please answer this while keeping in mind that its an old machine (i.e. Early 2011). Thanks
