Check that your iPhone and Apple Watch have been updated to the latest software versions ^:
- Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
- Update the software on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
Next try restarting both devices. Turn both off together first, then restart your iPhone before restarting your watch:
- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off.
- To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
If you have not yet done so, it may also help to calibrate your watch. This enables it to more accurately interpret data from the accelerometer when the watch is used to track indoor runs:

^ Presently iOS 9.1 and watchOS 2.0.1. To update your watch from a software version prior to watchOS 2, your iPhone needs to be running iOS 9 or later.
