    Greetings Gauri K,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that the microphone on your iPhone doesn’t appear to be working as expected and know how frustrating situations like this can be. However, there are some good isolation and troubleshooting steps that I would suggest you work through in this situation which are located in the following article.

    Cheers!

Thank you joe_7399 for the info. However, I have already tried these options and even Siri can recognise my voice properly. I think the issue started to appear after I upgraded to iOS 9. Can it happen due to any of the related apps like truecaller?

    Hi Gauri K,

Thanks for responding to let us know the issue still continues. It may be possible for a third-party app to affect the functionality of your iPhone if that app is not on the App Store and you installed it from elsewhere, but it appears that Truecaller is in the App Store so I doubt this is the issue.

One more step I advise before suggesting you contact Apple Support directly for more in depth isolation and troubleshooting would be to reinstall the operating system on your iPhone. This will help isolate the software on the iPhone versus the iPhone hardware.

This process should not affect any of your data, but I always advise having a current backup in either iCloud or iTunes.

How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

After your iPhone has been backed up, please follow the instructions from the following article to reinstall iOS on your device. After the reinstall has completed, test the issue again.

    1. Connect your device to a computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, you can borrow one, or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
    2. While your device is connected, force it to restart. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding until you see the Recovery mode screen.
    3. When you get the option to restore or update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

iTunes will download the software for your device. If it takes more than 15 minutes, your device will exit recovery mode and you'll need to repeat steps 2 and 3 again.

    Best!
