Q: Why was I suddenly asked to verify my keychain security code..... something about new servers?

I have suddenly been asked to verify my keychain code. It all 'appears' to be through Apple.... is this some sort of scam to get personal details?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Can you send us a screen shot.   Do not respond with personal details to any pop up.   All Apple approaches are made to you by name and contacts end with ... Apple.com

No unfortunately not. This appeared to be spot on, not very scam like at all but I might delete all my details to be on the safe side.

    Likely legit.

I signed into Goggle with my new smartphone (sorry Apple, iPhone is too expensive for my budget) and I immediately got an email alerting me to the fact.

It would surprise me if iCloud would not do something similar.

And oddly now I can't open any files in Preview. png's or pdfs. Still investigating… are these related incidences?

ok, to clarify, the prompt about a security code was through iCloud (system preferences) and I did go ahead and create a security code. My above Preview difficulties were resolved before I did so by rebooting the Mac. I think it was related because I've got Preview files in the cloud.

No mention of new servers were in my prompt.
