how to completely reset my apple wireless network

Are there step-by-step instructions on how to completely reset my Apple wireless network?

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and two Airport Express base stations.

Something is causing my network to quit working when I use Back To My Mac to connect to a machine on my home network from my laptop at work.

Help greatly appreciated.

It might make sense to check and confirm a few settings before you take the major step of starting all over.

Resetting everything is not going to help at all unless you have issues on your home network when you are at home. Is that the case?

Or, are you trying to use Back to My Mac (BTMM) and having problems? That is a completely different type of issue. With BTMM, your network might be perfect, but there are any number of things that will prevent BTMM from working from a remote location. Some can be fixed, while others cannot.

It's your call, but it would be a shame to spend a few hours resetting your network with no improvement with BTMM.

My initial problem started after my cable provider came and replaced the exterior cable to the house.

Then one of my Airport Expresses (I have two) was having trouble extending my network.

This morning I noticed that the same AE had a red circle with a white 1 in it but there wasn't any update needed and it wasn't connecting to the network.

I powered down my Airport Extreme Base Station and it appeared as all was well, but then when I remoted in to my network using BTMM from work, my Sonos sound system went "offline" and my wife indicated that she couldn't browse the internet

If I connected to my home network from work using GoTo Assist, I had to perform a couple of tasks to get my Sonos working and my wife just started the Wifi connection on her iMac and she was happy again.

Just a lot of weird stuff going on.

I figured that I would just "start over".

You likely already know how to locate the instructions in the setup guides for a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort devices, but here are the steps to save you some time looking them up.

Power off the AirPort Extreme for a minute or two

Hold in the reset button first with a pen or pencil, and keep holding it in for an additional 7 to 8 seconds while you simultaneously power the AirPort back up

Release the reset button after the 7-8 second hold period, and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status

Do the same with the other AirPorts, then power them all down

Set up the AirPort Extreme first and make sure that all is well, then set up each AirPort Express one at a time, checking as you go.

You can use the same wireless network name and password, or use a new network name and new password.

Thanks. One last issue. I was trying to change to "hard-wired" on one on my Airport Express to extend my network. When I plugged the ethernet cable into the WAN port on the AE, it messed up my network.

If I were to guess, I would think that I may need to do a factory reset on the AE that was once used for extending a wireless network, but not sure of the other steps needed.

Trying to find an article to assist with this change.

Help with this would also be greatly appreciated.

Reset the AirPort Express back to factory default settings

Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the Express

Then, set up the Express

The setup "wizard" will pick up the wired connection, so during the setup watch the process to verify that the Express is being set up to extend using Ethernet.

To get the wizard running, click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station. Click directly on AirPort Express just below that listing

The first set up screen will look like this, except that you will see your devices and the name of your network

Type in a name that you want to call the AirPort Express

Click Next

The next screen will look like this

It will take about a minute for the next screen to appear with a message of Setup Complete. Click Done and you are done.
