Q: Keyboard keys not working as they should

I live in Spain. I have just upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.1 and the keyboard has gone haywire. For example @ is now shift 2, then it should be alt 2. How do I restore it to what it was before – I would put a question mark here but cannot find it!
