Q: Making Certain Location For FC7 Plug Ins
Hi Gang
I realize this topic has been covered before. I just wanted to make certain of where FC7 Plug Ins need to be installed. Most '3rd Party Plug In' sites will almost always tell you to install them in: HD > Library > Application Support > Final Cut Pro System Support > Plug-Ins.
However in the article below you'll see that the information appears a little different:
Final Cut Pro searches the following folders for FxPlug plug-ins if the folders are present on your system (they are typically created when installing third-party software):
/Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/
/Users/username/Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/
It goes on to say: Final Cut Pro also searches for plug-ins in the default Motion FxPlug folder:
/Library/Application Support/ProApps/SharedA/Plug-Ins
FXScript plug-ins that you create yourself or purchase from a third party should be installed in one of the following folders:
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins/
/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Plugins/
I may be missing something here, but I always most easily find: HD > Library > Application Support > Final Cut Pro System Support > Plug-Ins.
Thank you for reading this - my apology if its redundant.

Hello Shane - Thanx for the reply.
Regarding Nattress filter packages and others like TMTS Free, the installation directions do not appear to mention/distinguish whether their filters are FXScript, or FXPlug. They advise the same Path: /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins. Unless I'm missing something, some of these Plug-Ins could be transitions/dissolves, while others are Filters all within the same package. After installing them, FC apparently knows where to put them; either in the 'Dissolves' folder or in the 'Video Filters' folder.
