I am looking to add more RAM space to my mid 2009 Macbook Pro (13 in). I am wondering if it's possible to add a 4gb ram space with the already installed 2gb? Will this cause issues if installed? I am having trouble finding 2gb for my Macbook and don't want to get a generic RAM incase of potential issues.

Buy your RAM from these guys, and consider fitting 2 x 4GB chips instead of just one.
Do make certain that any new RAM module that you install in your MBP has the correct specifications A mid-2009 MBP (model identifier 5,5 has the following RAM specifications: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.

I recently purchased 8gb from Best Buy, it looks like it has 2 slots but I only purchased one 8gb RAM. You can't use an 8GB chip in a 2009 Mac, return it and buy 2 x 4GB chips from OWC. Please don't improvise, buy as I said. 2 x 4GB chips. Don't even fit the 8GB.
The RAM you bought is incorrect in nearly every attribute, wrong speed, wrong size, I assume you bought it because it was cheap?
I bought it because it fit the specifications I needed. I'm not an IT person and I don't know much about the insides of the computer or laptop so that's why I'm a part of this community, to ask questions and learn something. I'm not trying to compromise anything, I'm aware that I have a precious item to take care of so please don't assume 🙂
No it doesn't, it's the wrong speed (1600, it should be 1066), it's the wrong size (I said 2 x 4GB, not 1 x 8GB chip). I even gave you a link to the place to buy it from.
I and others told you the correct specification, then you ignored it.
Take your Mac to an Apple Store, have them do it.
