Q: One or more frames were dropped during playback

starting a new project.  When I add a video effect between two clips and attempt to play my sequence with the added effect the video will freeze when it transitions from the effect to the clip ,  I get an error message "One or more frames were dropped during playback" and a list of corrective actions.  Nothing I've tried under Firefox setup menus, suggested in this warning window, has fixed this issue although I've had difficulty trying to interpret what some of those suggested fixes are.  I've used these same settings and equivalent clips from the same DV camcorder and effects in prior projects.  When two clips are played without the effect applied the sequence works fine.  Also scrolling the sequence one frame at a time reveals that all frames are in the timeline with no dead space.

Go to the menu Final Cut Pro > User Preferences and on the General Tab UNCHECK the box marked Report dropped frames during playback.

This warning is telling you that FCP cannot playback every single frame at the correct frame rate in real time,  it is a legacy feature and is only important if you are playing the sequence out to tape. For all other uses, such as exporting the sequence for the web, all the frames will be exported correctly.

In order to get smooth playback after adding effects or transitions to your video, you may need to render the transition first. The ability to forgo rendering is based on the horsepower of your computer and speed of the drives that are serving the video.

You're a good dog Meg.  Your reply seems to have worked, at least on my first try.  Don't understand why this issue reared it's ugly head after several other videos from the same camera and same Firefox app.  Many thanks for tonight's sound sleep.
