Says my itunes isn't up to date but it is?

I am trying to back up my iphone. I plug it in and it says, I cannot back up because i doesnt support and i need to get the latest version of itunes. So I go into Itunes and check for up dates and i says its up to date! I even tried checking for software updates thinking that would fix the problem but my software was also up to date. Any ideas?
