I run vmware fusion 6.0.6 can I install OS X El Capitan with having a problem with fusion?

I currently run OS 10.9.5 and VM ware Fusion 6.0.6 to emulated Windows 7 (64 bit). Will Fusion version 6 work with El Capitan?

Does any one have any advice about upgrading my operating system?

I have a Mac Mid 2011 3.4 GHZ intel Core i7 16GB of Ram

Short answer:

Yes. 6.0.6 VMWare Fussion does work with El Capitan.

Long answer:

I had Mavericks running 6.0.2 VMWF.

Once I'd upgraded to El Capitan, VMWF 6.0.2 stopped working. The icon was disabled and VM stopped launching.

While trying to figure out how to update it, I launched in from the command line(Terminal). It started out ok, I don't know how well it would have ran though.

Once VMWF was started though, I was able to select check for updates from the menu.

Then I upgraded to 6.0.6.

VMWF 6.0.6 runs without any complaints this far on El Capitan.

Hope this helps someone.

Just in case someone else stumbles upon this...

I upgraded to 10.11.4 and am running Windows 7 in Fusion 6.0.6 — it's partially compatible. I can't say I've tested it extensively, but there is one bug I’ve discovered - accessing usb devices such as your printer is a problem.

I normally use the technique titled:

• ’Connecting a printer directly to a virtual machine through USB'

In order to get this to work I had to uninstall and reinstall vmWare Tools. As soon as I finished using the printer from within Fusion - I ‘disconnected’ the printer from the Virtual Machine menu. I then decided to see if I could reconnect the printer — no go. That means if I want to ‘Connect a printer directly to a virtual machine through USB’ — the only thing I know to do is re-install vmWare Tools.

There are others in the vmWare Fusion forum complaining about USB problems.

I also attempted to use the technique titled:

• 'Printer Pass-through (ThinPrint)'

That did allow me to send a file through to the printer, but the formatting was not right. So, for me, this won’t work as I’m printing checks out of Quicken PC.

Check the forums on vmWare.

The cross or more accurately 'No Entry' symbol means the application is not compatible with El Capitan. As you have already seen in previous replies here you really need to upgrade to VMware Fusion version 8 to gain compatibility with El Capitan.

Once you have installed the new upgraded version you should be able to run it and access your existing virtual images.

Have a look at the following

Buy the Upgrade - http://store.vmware.com/store/vmwde/en_GB/pd/productID.323417000?src=ps_570c41fd 1ed2e&kw=%2Bvmware%20%2Bfusion%20upgrade…

KB article discussing how to upgrade (you obviously still have to buy it) - https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displa yKC&externalId=1014529

While they talking about going from v6 to v7 and then to v8, I feel you could go from v6 to v8 directly. Basically you buy the upgrade, download it, install it, run it and it will let you use existing VMs.

The one possible catch is that you are supposed to have shutdown all VMs before upgrading. Since you cannot run v6 in El Capitan you may have a problem if you left some VMs 'paused' rather than shutdown.

I run vmware fusion 6.0.6 can I install OS X El Capitan with having a problem with fusion?
