Q: Why and how to fix: ENTER NEW PASSWORD FOR KEYCHAIN

On my MacPro only after my last night system update, I have a problem with login in to my laptop.

A small window pops up and is asking 9 times for a password for 9 different keychain items.

It starts with: ENTER NEW PASSWORD FOR KEYCHAIN "local items"

                         current password ................

                         new password ...................

                         verify ....................

It doesn't take any of my passwords (I have them written and documented) After many tryouts will accept one and the next 9 windows is asking for a password .

Those windows are:

1 Message Agent, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

2 Keychain, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

3 Tallgent, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

4 Comm Centre, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

5 Cloud, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

6 Sccoped Bookmark Agent, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

7 Call History Plugin Helper, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

8 Addres Book, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

9 Accountsd:, WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS

In a past I have used 4 password. The computer do not accept any of them. By trying to reenter (many times) my passwords, the computer, eventually will accept "one" of the passwords then will go to the next ...............    WANTS TO USE THE LOCAL ITEMS.

When after a while I want to use my computer again, I have to go trough that hoopla again.

Please HELP.

    Hey zbigniewfrombranford,

Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

It looks like there's an issue with the login keychain after updating El Capitan.

Since you mentioned that you have your passwords stored elsewhere, I'd suggest the advice in Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X:

To reset your keychain in Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or later:

    1. Open Keychain Access, which is in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.
    2. From the Keychain Access menu, choose Preferences.
    3. Click General, then click Reset My Default Keychain.
    4. Authenticate with your account login password.
    5. Quit Keychain Access.
    6. Restart your computer.

After this, you'll need to enter passwords and give apps permission one more time. The changes should then be stored in the newly reset keychain.

    Best Regards.
