What you're trying to do isn't possible. If you're trying to use the Remote app on your phone, you connect over WiFi. Both the iPhone and the ATV need to be on the same WiFi network.

There are some problems with the Bluetooth for sure I think. I tried to set up my Apple TV 4 using my iPad 3 (running iOS 9.1) and the iPad would not see it much less pair with it. I had to use the "manual" option. Strangely, my Note 4 phone can see the ATV4, well the MAC address of the Bluetooth transmitter at least but Apple TV 4 won't accept the pairing. Something tells me there'll be an update shortly once this c*ckup is shown to be widespread. I also tried to pair my Microsoft Wedge Keyboard (which works fine with Apple TV 3), but goes unrecognized by ATV4.

The Remote app, at this time, does not work with the Apple TV 4.

I had this problem but found you need to have phone REALLY close to the AppleTV for it to work. I think they are calling this 'Touch to set up' Bluetooth. Once it connected all went fine.

Not the same thing. The OP is referring to the remote app, which is not supported at this time

When I click to add this Unpaired device, I'll shortly get a message: cannot connect to the atvenni

Make sure same wifi... Turned on etc...

Hi. Have you reviewed the Remote app setup instructions here Use the Apple TV Remote app - Apple Support? You might try restarting the Apple TV first. The Remote app connects over the network, not using Bluetooth. When you try to connect it, the ATV should just be sitting at the home screen, not in Settings.

The apple TV app showing my apple TV 4 as unpaired. I waited at least a 30 minutes to get code. Fortunately the mirroring working, I've got code to use.

But all my trials failed to connect from the apple remote app. Atv3 is okay, listed too!

What I tried:

Restored apple TV 4 to factory settings.

Uninstalled the apple remote app and install from apple
