Q: Why is my Nikon D810 not recognised as a disk drive

Why is my Nikon D810 not recognised as a disk drive when plugged into a USB port on my brand new iMac whereas an SD card  when plugged in is recognised?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.5), iPhone

    Thank you for your reply, Maybe you've misunderstood my query. I have no issues with my iMac and am enjoying the new model immensely. My query related as to why when I plug my camera(Nikon D810) into one of the USB ports it is not recognised as a device! Image capture can see the camera as a device, so why cannot the device show up on the desktop? I find it strange that nearly every applicable application can detect the camera except Finder,

    If I take a card from the camera and insert it into the SD card port it shows up in finder and on the desktop also if put the same card int a card reader it also shows up on the desktop.   This is not about getting images onto the computer, that is no problem at all. I use Lightroom to edit my pictures and that has no problem in seeing the camera as a device, why can't the desktop do the same???

    Are there different settings on the camera for MassTransport or PTP? Check those and try switch between them
