I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your new iMac. If you are having issues importing images from your Nikon camera, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following articles helpful:
Using a camera with your Mac - Apple Support
Image Capture: Transfer images and other items from your device

Thank you for your reply, Maybe you've misunderstood my query. I have no issues with my iMac and am enjoying the new model immensely. My query related as to why when I plug my camera(Nikon D810) into one of the USB ports it is not recognised as a device! Image capture can see the camera as a device, so why cannot the device show up on the desktop? I find it strange that nearly every applicable application can detect the camera except Finder,
If I take a card from the camera and insert it into the SD card port it shows up in finder and on the desktop also if put the same card int a card reader it also shows up on the desktop. This is not about getting images onto the computer, that is no problem at all. I use Lightroom to edit my pictures and that has no problem in seeing the camera as a device, why can't the desktop do the same???
Many thanks for trying to help.
Mike
PS Perhaps an apple technical guru can tell me why!
