airdrop weirdness

Am trying to use Airdrop between my Yosemite MBP and my iPhone 6+. When I start it up, my wife's iPad shows up but not my phone. Occasionally my phone will appear along with my wife's iPad, but when I try to transfer a picture, my phone shows 'waiting' and my connection disappears from Airdrop on my Macbook. At this point, neither my wife's iPad or my phone appear on my Macbook, though my wife's iPad is showing up on my phone. Is Airdrop broken? The behavior changes without my changing anything on my MBP. What's wrong?

Thanks, Eric, have already run through all those suggestions. The problem is, that some of my devices show up, some don't. Or some show up, then disappear. Currently my iPhone is not showing up, but sometimes it does, then vanishes. Likewise, my wife's iPad, which usually shows up, is not there either. Earlier today I saw my iPhone in my MBP, and my MBP from my iPhone, but when I tried to send a picture the iPhone said 'waiting', and in my MBP display for Airdrop, the iPhone simply vanished. Sigh. Will just go back to using Dropbox, which always works.
