Q: New Apple TV 4th Gen not updating iTunes play count

just got my new Apple TV 4th gen and using it to home share my iTunes music collection like I used to with my previous Apple TVs however on a song is played it is not updating the play count in iTunes. Previous Apple TVs have done this. I have checked all my settings and cannot get it to update my play counts. Is this a bug? Any suggestions people?

Thanks for reminding me. I submitted the bug there too and notice my other bugs going back 5 years have no indication of being looked at. Sigh.

One of main reasons I use Apple TV to stream my music is due to the fact it (should) update my Play Counta in iTunes. Really frustrating this isn't working with the new Apple TV.

I'Ve reported it via feedback, but reported it (but they closed it because it matches another bug report that I can not view or check the status of) and even rang the support line and they said they were looking into it and getting back to me. No response for nearly a week.

I am hoping TVos 9.1 comes out soon and it fixes the playcounts issue.

keep hassling them people.

I just noticed I had opened a bug report in Sept., 2010 when the AppleTV 2 came out that it had the same problem. That one was also closed as a duplicate and eventually fixed.

MY bug report from last week was just closed as a duplicate. Of course I can't see the report it duplicates but they indicate it is still open

Yea, I had the same thing. A support guy was supposed to be ringing me back too. That's not happened yet.
I'm using AIrplay in iTunes and using the remote app to control it as a workaround but the remote app is a bit fiddly, the music sounds a bit lossy and it behaves oddly but at least I can get Play Counts updated for now. Not ideal. Hoping 9.1 will fix the Play Count issue.

Just got an email update on this from Apple. And the update is there is no Update. Come on Apple. I hope it appears in 9.1.

I was using the Air Play workaround but the sounds is so lossy I've reverted back to using my 3rd Gen Apple TV for Home sharing my iTunes music. Really need this Home sharing playcount issue sorting Apple or my 4th Gen Apple TV will just become a dust gatherer
