New Apple TV 4th Gen not updating iTunes play count

just got my new Apple TV 4th gen and using it to home share my iTunes music collection like I used to with my previous Apple TVs however on a song is played it is not updating the play count in iTunes. Previous Apple TVs have done this. I have checked all my settings and cannot get it to update my play counts. Is this a bug? Any suggestions people?

One of main reasons I use Apple TV to stream my music is due to the fact it (should) update my Play Counta in iTunes. Really frustrating this isn't working with the new Apple TV.


I'Ve reported it via feedback, but reported it (but they closed it because it matches another bug report that I can not view or check the status of) and even rang the support line and they said they were looking into it and getting back to me. No response for nearly a week.


I am hoping TVos 9.1 comes out soon and it fixes the playcounts issue.

Yea, I had the same thing. A support guy was supposed to be ringing me back too. That's not happened yet.

I'm using AIrplay in iTunes and using the remote app to control it as a workaround but the remote app is a bit fiddly, the music sounds a bit lossy and it behaves oddly but at least I can get Play Counts updated for now. Not ideal. Hoping 9.1 will fix the Play Count issue.
