Oct 30, 2015 7:44 AM in response to lllaassby Caramclean,HI im new to Macs and not sure which model I have. My husband bought it used for me. I had just installed the newest OSX update before it froze on me. I believe it was 9.1. How would I reset the SMC and the NVRAM/PRAM?

I doubt 9.1 was the previous OSX version . The latest iOS (iPhone, iPod touch and iPad) is 9.1
- Try starting in Safe Mode

- Boot to Recovery and repair the startup disk

- If it is repairable reinstall the OSX
How to reinstall OS X on your Mac - Apple Support
- If you do not have a backup use disk utility to restore the internal disk to an external disk so you can try to recover data.
Then format the startup disk and do a fresh install of OSX

Oct 30, 2015 8:58 AM in response to lllaassby Caramclean,I Reset the SMC and tried to reset the NVRAM/pram. Got the 2nd startup sound and still grey screen. It says it's an early 2008 model. I tried again to enter in safe mode and recovery mode and all it does is make the startup sound but remains on the grey screen. Doesnt matter how long I hold the keys down for. the apple logo does not appear

Use a wired KB.
Do you have access to another Mac?
Do you have the original or upgrade DVD install disks you can try booting from?

Oct 30, 2015 9:16 AM in response to lllaassby Caramclean,absolutely nothing happens hen I push any of the commands. the keyboard I'm using is the laptop keyboard. No to both of your other questions, first Mac for me and my husband bought it refurbished from a small computer store where we live and it came with only the charger no disks I do have an iPad though
