Oct 30, 2015 9:58 AM in response to Jwrbloomby Phil0124,Some Bluetooth devices are not supported.
Use Bluetooth accessories with your Apple TV (4th generation) - Apple Support
Some Bluetooth accessories aren't supported on Apple TV (4th generation), including Bluetooth keyboards.
What exactly are you attempting to accomplish exactly? There no real need to connect iPhones or iPads via Bluetooth to the Apple Tv.

Oct 30, 2015 10:10 AM in response to Phil0124by Jwrbloom,No real need to connect iPhones? I thought iPhones was a device that could be used to play games.
When was the last time you really used the Apple TV remote to type in user information and passwords? It's a bad experience. Certainly ATV4 didn't take a step backward in that regard. (Bad enough there isn't a Podcasts app to play the video podcasts I have subscribed to.) So far ATV4 has been a step backwards in terms of user experience. I'm developed apps give it the potential, but out of the box, ATV3 is a more useful product.
BeatsStudio Wireless showed up, wouldn't pair and now won't show up again.

Oct 30, 2015 10:16 AM in response to Phil0124by Realjimmythefish,Phip, my issue was with set up At first. ATV found my iPhone 6 but then lost it, never to return. I want to use my iPhone or our iPod touch as a second controller but neither find ATV. Any ideas please? Slightly annoying ...

Oct 30, 2015 10:32 AM in response to Jwrbloomby Phil0124,If you need to Stream games to the ATV, you use Airplay, there's no real direct BT connection involved. Where does it say you can use the phone to play games. Where did you see this?
Most games are played on the Apple Tv using the Game controller.

As far as I can tell, there is currently no support for the iPhone as a remote. Unlike other Apple Tvs. The 4th gen is currently set to be used with the Siri remote only at this time.
Once successfully paired, your earphones should appear in the My Devices section.
I think you need to take a step back, and understand what it is that can be done, before assuming angrily it does not work. And what exactly is required.
Use more than one Bluetooth accessory
Your Apple TV (4th generation) can support several Bluetooth controllers simultaneously, up to this many:
- One Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote*
- Two MFi (Made for iOS) Bluetooth controllers, or one MFi Bluetooth controller and one Bluetooth audio accessory (like headphones or speakers)
You might be able to pair more accessories, but at some point you may need to unpair other accessories to allow for new ones.

Oct 30, 2015 10:43 AM in response to Phil0124by Jwrbloom,Right now, the only thing which will pair with my ATV4 is my remote. I have a new pair of BeatsStudio Wireless, updated firmware, which won't even be recognized by ATV4.
Siri doesn't work in account information fields, such as user names and passwords, so as a device, the ATV4 is more cumbersome than ATV3. That does matter if I have to type in my password when I make purchased on the App Store or ITunes. I'd rather not turn off having to type in a password, but so far I have.
The only time a product should lose functionality is when that technology has become obsolete. Typing using a connected keyboard (bluetooth, iPhone or iPad) is far greater than using the remote. So as someone giving advice on this forum you should account for that level of business sense that many iOS users likely have. Advantages of being in an ecosystem means maintaining and expanding connectivity, not losing it.

Oct 30, 2015 10:51 AM in response to Phil0124by Realjimmythefish,★HelpfulOn the keynote speech. The Crossy road demo said you can use an iPhone or touch as a second controller. it doesn't work for me and ATV won't find any Apple devices?? thats what they said!

Oct 30, 2015 11:15 AM in response to Jwrbloomby Steve Neal,Just spoke to Apple Support in Ireland. They confirm that Bluetooth keyboards are not currently supported in the Apple TV 4th Edition, which to me is a huge backwards step compared to the Apple TV 3. Searching for stuff in Netflix, catch up TV apps, is a lot easier with the keyboard, particularly if you are using multiple languages (try using Siri to find the news in the Swedish SVT Play app...)
And worse than that - the iOS and Apple Watch remote apps don't work either. That's really annoying... Sure the Siri remote is good for some stuff - but I'm actually finding it slower for text entry than the previous d-pad style IR remote (which luckily works still)

Oct 30, 2015 11:38 AM in response to Realjimmythefishby Phil0124,I just re-watched the keynote and yes, Crossy Road, and the other Sports game featured mention that you can use the iPhone a second controller.
This will probably be an in App feature connection. The iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, so far have not been unable to directly pair with anything over bluetooth. and instead use soft connections through the apps that use them.
I believe this will be the same with Apple Tv 4th Gen. any connection will be done within the relevant app/game. In this Case Crossy Road should have an option to connect the iPhone.

Oct 30, 2015 11:55 AM in response to Jwrbloomby ekmef,I will be sending the ATV4 I received today back to Apple. Without support for a proper input device, it is a huge step backwards compared to the ATV2 and 3.
Perhaps I will be buying one again once they decide to support bluetooth keyboards.

Oct 30, 2015 11:55 AM in response to Steve Nealby Jwrbloom,Siri isn't exactly an exact science. Hate to see no external keyboards being supported (hardware or software), especially in setting up so many apps. Definite step back.

Oct 30, 2015 12:04 PM in response to Jwrbloomby Jwrbloom,Hopefully most of the apps use the activation method, instead of the type your user account information. 50/50 so far.

Oct 30, 2015 12:48 PM in response to Phil0124by Realjimmythefish,Thanks Phil. I'll watch it again but I'm sure they said you could also use an I touch. Nevertheless, neither my iPhone 6 or the newer itouch connect by Bluetooth directly to ATV, nor can I see where there is an option in the app. I may be missing some thing but that's really poor. Thethanks for your time. Appreciated.

Oct 30, 2015 3:54 PM in response to Realjimmythefishby Phil0124,As I said, it was wrong, and it was inf act mentioned in he keynote that you can use an iPhone, and an iPod Touch as secondary controler, but again I believe this should be through the apps themselves, not the BT settings menu of the Apple TV.
i.e Its not a direct Pairing.
