Q: Why is the Remote App not compatible with 4th gen Apple TV?

Is it Apple's plan to release an update to the Remote app to support the 4th gen ATV or are they ditching the app?

So we can scroll endlessly through alphabets and library lists using tiny 1" trackpad.

I already really miss using the remote app and the scroll buttons on the old remote as scrolling around endlessly on the new remote is just TEDIOUS!!!

Yep. Can't believe that Apple haven't included support for (or updated) the iOS or Apple Watch Remote apps.  Nor included support for Bluetooth keyboards.  Major step back. Entering logins for things like Netflix is incredibly tedious with the Siri remote.  I ended up using my old IR Apple Remote as it was quicker (The Siri remote overshoots too often)

I agree with Paul.  I cannot believe Apple would not support the iOS remote app on this new Apple TV!  I intend to call tech support regarding this as it very well may be a deal-breaker for me.  The new Apple TV remote is a nice step up from the old one when it comes to surfing content, but the iOS remote app on iPhone and iPad is the way to go when you need to enter text and for other functions.  Really Apple, why do you keep breaking things that used to work well:?

LLiked how i was able to use my iPhone via Bluetooth to auto Apple ID account set up and wifi setup. But now that I have to login to Netfli, NHL, HBO, etc would prefer to use my phone for typing then this new one line linear text input. Hmm does Siri accept spelling letter by letter input?

I just learned that bluetooth keyboards also don't work with the 4th gen Apple TV, so we are forced to used the Siri remote and ATV's clumsy linear layout of characters for entering credentials. This was a big hassle when setting up the ATV and adding new apps/channels since I have long usernames and long/complex passwords.

Everybody don't freak out just yet. I imagine Apple's thought about both the lack of keyboard and remote app compatibility with this version. These will likely get added down the road. They probably just wanted to get these out there in time for holiday sales.

Not freaking out.  Just disappointed Apple didn't include either the Remote app or wireless keyboard functionality on the new ATV when it would be most useful - for initial ATV set up and adding apps. Don't get me wrong, I love the gen 4 ATV, but the inconvenience of entering credentials with the Siri Remote took a bit of luster off the set-up experience.

If they don't, it's catastrophic . I cannot command my Living Room Apple TV 4 from my office anymore. When my kids looked TV shows with last version I used App Remote to change the episode.

I just scheduled a call with Apple to see if something is on the way to correct this.

Otherwise, I will probably return this Apple TV.

scrolling around endlessly has been a feature for years - you'd think they'd actually learn from past feedback

I honestly think they don't test these devices with more than a dozen or so albums/movies etc

I would recommend to anyone to send a feedback to apple asking for the Remote App to be updated to work with the Apple Tv 4 gen

You can post a feedback here

    Good idea Raph35. Done.

Maybe Apple will add Remote app and wireless keyboard compatibility to the 4th gen ATV if enough people send in their feedback.

One solution to the scrolling endlessly through home library lists issue is to use the iOS Remote app to control your iTunes library instead of the ATV4, and when playing off your iTunes library, set the ATV as the airplay output. This allows you to navigate all your lists via the iPhone, which is a much better experience all round. This doesn't solve the issue of typing passwords for all to see and the having a fit of frustration induced angst, anxiety and hysteria every time you need to type something, but at least avoids spending 45 minutes trying to reach Zoolander when scrolling through your home library.

I would liken the ATV4 scrolling  to one of those dreams when you are trying to run really fast but just can't seem to move. Typing is a bit like like trying to thread too small a needle, in terms of sheer frustration.

I was using Apple Remote App to write as-well, much more easy than scrolling letters and letters...

Apple Remote App was an outstanding App for Apple Watch and House Domotics... AppleTV 3rd -> 4th looks like a downgrade in this sense...
