iPhone 6, not sure which OS
What do you mean by "asking for activation?" Any iOS device must be re-activated anytime iOS is updated, the phone is erased, or iOS is restored. Other than that it should not be asking for activation. But activation is automatic, so that's why I'm confused about "asking for activation."
Lawrence, when I turn on the phone and enter my password a screen comes up saying Activate iphone in large lettering across the top of the screen and below it reads "This iphone is linked to an apple id. Enter the apple id and password that were used to set up this phone."
There is an activation help below the above wording and I clicked it - the wording there says "A password is required to activate this device because its owner has used Find My Phone to link it to their apple id"
Below that it reads "If you were given this device or purchased it second-hand you will have to contact the original owner to have them remove this device from their account. Additional information can be found at: support.apple.com/kb/TS4515"
Thanks for your reply, I hope I have given you enough info. The phone has asked me to update the OS but I have not done so - might it do so on its own? Thanks
The instructions were provided in the message on the phone. You will have to contact the person who enabled Find my iPhone if it is not you and have them follow these instructions to disable Activation Lock, the iOS theft deterrent feature: What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you enabled Find my iPhone and just forgot your iCloud password start here: https://iforgot.apple.com
