Q: Telstra Apple Music subscription not appearing on Apple TV (4th Generation)

Summary

  • I have an active 24 month Apple Music subscription via Telstra (Australian carrier).
  • Previously this was causing all kinds of issues due to conflicts with previous trials but eventually all was resolved (see here).
  • I now have Apple Music working on both the iPhone 6s and Macbook (iTunes).

Issue

On the Apple TV (4th Generation) when I open the Music application only the radio side of Apple Music is accessible (Beats 1+ Stations). I can't see how it is possible to "sign in" or "unlock" the full Apple Music experience? When I navigate to Settings > Accounts, my Apple ID is signed in to all aspects (iCloud, iTunes and App Store, Game Centre & Home Sharing).

Note: When I sign in to Settings > Accounts > Subscriptions > Manage Subscriptions, I receive the message "You don't have any subscriptions". That said, I believe that is the case now on the Macbook (iTunes) side due to it being handled via Telstra but the service still seems to work on the other devices.

Question

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

FYI - I just reset the Apple TV but still no luck.

Below is the first screen I see when I open the Music application (even though I have active subscriptions on both the Phone and Macbook). Once I click "Do Not Show Again" I'm reverted to only using the Radio (free) aspect of Apple Music.

I have had so many issues with the Telstra free membership, I am almost considering cancelling it and just paying for the service. Don't understand why it's so hard. They should have just given out 12 month codes or something instead, and left everything to be done through Apple.

    Hi All,

I was able to resolve the issue by doing the following:

    1. Put Apple TV to Sleep

    2. Sign Out of iTunes on the Macbook

    3. Shutdown Macbook

    4. Sign Out of Apple Music on the iPhone

    5. Force quit the Apple Music application on the iPhone

    6. Reboot the Router (i.e. bounce the Wi-Fi)

    7. Turn OFF the Wi-Fi on the iPhone

    8. Restart the iPhone (Wi-Fi still off)

    9. Once the iPhone is back ON, go to https://itunes.apple.com/carrier

    10. On the iPhone, go through the Apple Music sign in process (Note: You may be prompted to toggle iCloud Music Library ON if it is not already. Settings > Music > iCloud Music Library).

    11. Turn on Macbook

    12. Open iTunes on Macbook and Sign In with your Apple ID

    13. Wake Apple TV from sleep

    14. Restart Apple TV (Settings > System > Restart)

    15. Turn ON the Wi-Fi on the iPhone

Apologies, I have jumped the gun on resolving the issue (if there is a Moderator watching, can you please un-solve this thread).

Since going through the steps the My Music and Playlists sections now reflect what I have on the iPhone (e.g. showing Playlists I have added through Apple Music on the iPhone). That said, I'm still not able to see For You or New sections (only Radio, My Music, Playlists & Search).

Also, when I use the Search functionality the results are still limited to Radio Stations only.

It's all to do with the Telstra 12 or 24 month subscription not registering with Apple Properly. Just wish those two companies could work that out and fix the issue.

My Apple Music subscription (via Telstra) also now seems to be working since upgrading to tvOS 9.0.1.

My end result after lodging this as a complaint with Telstra is that they have credited me the amount of 12 months of Apple Music, and just told me to sign up directly through Apple. It appears they just can't get it to work properly between the two companies. So they cancelled my 12 month subscription and have credited me the money.

This took about a week and half after initially making the complaint, and then spending hours on the phone going through  a bunch of other stuff. At least now this has happened for me, people should just be able to state they have read it on the forums and hopefully they can jump straight to the final resolution.

Hope this helps everyone. (Going to post this in all the forums I have posted in about this topic)
