Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, that's not possible at this time.
If you have any suggestions that you think might enhance the Apple TV you can send Apple your feedback here
The "Remote" app on your iPad or iPhone has worked with the previous versions of the TV. I'm certain it will be updated to work with the current version in the very near future. Keep your eye on the store for same.

I'm afraid you can't say that, it's just speculation. You can't be certain at all.
Winston, you are right to point out the speculative element to the post, however, I have just this minute returned from the Apple Store in Manchester where two of the Geniuses there said to expect an update to the Remote app "soon" which will work with the new Apple TV. Still speculative, I suppose, but unofficially official perhaps? ;-)
Winston has no idea what he's talking about ... with all due respect ... you should be able to control your apple TV with your iphone via bluetooth. Mine, however, isn't working yet. Might be a firmware update but that would have been nice to know when they sold me the Box.
I don't see anything wrong with the answer. While one may think you should be able to use the remote app, it's not currently possible. The app would need to be updated if it were going to support the new ATV.

Yes, in fact Winston does know what he's talking about. He knows that everyone here is just a fellow user who therefore has no inside knowledge of what Apple plans. I didn't see anywhere that he made any comments about what you would like to do with your Apple TV. "Should" is not the relevant word. What you "should" be able to do with the Apple TV is what Apple designed it to be able to do. As long as it performs to spec, it is doing exactly what it "should" do. Whether that is what you want it to be able to do is something else entirely. And, once again, Winston gave good advice: submit feedback to Apple.
Having to hunt and peck for characters to enter logins, passwords, and yes, search, is insane. We desperately need the Remote app to be updated to support ATV4. I'm not hopeful given my suspicion is that Apple wants the new Siri-Remote to be the one and only interface. I hope to be proven wrong. Maybe with enough hue and cry Apple will release an updated Remote app this weekend.

So you submitted feedback?
I submitted a bug to the Apple bug reporter database (developer database).
As it's pretty obviously not a bug, I'd also submit through the standard feedback page.
The Apple bug reporter database allows you to choose from amongst a list of classification categories including UI / Usability. Hunting and pecking to enter characters is a UI / Usability issue, particularly since we had support for virtual and physical keyboards pre-ATV4 gens. No doubt, Apple is aware of this usability problem with the new ATV4 by now. But sending feedback via the Feedback channel is also important. You are right.
Not being a developer, I don't have occasion to use the bug reporter. I don't have a good sense of who reads it and how they use the information. But, the more feedback, the better.

The Geniuses will have no more info than any of us here.
If Apple push Siri as essential they may abandon the Remote app and regard it as legacy or suggest a Bluetooth keyboard.
I suspect it will get an update but we can't be certain.
The product seems a bit half-baked if they update the app down the line rather than making it available at release, along with certain 'standard' apps being missing at launch...
just a 'me too' post. If anyone else feels the same way this is the link that will let Apple know where you stand on this (or any other) issue:

A small point: using Siri in many non-english languages (to search for music, for example) is not, and will never be, as good as text entry. Just in Norway, a nation with less people than Sydney, we have hundreds of dialects. Many song titles are intentionally written in the dialect of the band - yet this is not an officially recognised language, so will always be difficult for something like Siri to recognise. Text entry please, Apple.
