Q: Accenting red hair - color correction

Hello All,

The subject has auburn/red hair but is also wearing a slightly bright red top and I'm trying to emphasize her hair some but the shirt goes brighter at the same time.

Any tips on just focusing on the hair ?

Thanks,

Al

Within FCP, trial and error. Experiment with multiple color corrections, using the shape mask and/or  the color mask. Otherwise, a third party solution.

    Good luck.

IUse the color mask to select the color. Then add a shape mask that selects the region of the shirt. Subtract the shape mask from the color mask so only the hair is selected.

... and it needed  a year or so for me to find out, color masks 'track'....no, not in technical term, but when Mrs Moore moves her head, the mask stays with the hair ....

IT always used to do that; the popup is new, which makes the options much clearer.

    Hey Tom, All,

    Making Progress...

I have shape mask above the color mask and I can choose subtract for color but all are greyed out for shape.

Should I do auto balance color first before masking?

How do I isolate just the hair which of course is not square vs the shirt which was easier to zero in on with the circles/handles.

I found that among. global, highlights, midtowns, and highlights that moving highlights up to about 50% made her hair redder .

    Does that sound right?

Not sure how to keep the mask moving with the head...

    Thanks everyone,

    Al
