Adding pictures/graphics w TEXT to DV movies

In the past - I was told if I wanted to add a picture ( with text titling mixed in) to a DV quality movie in final cut pro - that I should use: 720x480 300 dpi Tiff file - however looks badly smudgy/ pixilated post importing.

Q: Why does this look so bad? Should I be using a different size/format?

I would add this to the neverending discussion on this board about the still-pic quality in iM...

don't hesitate to make use of the forum's search feature, keywords "jaggies" or "pixelate" ...

in short:
* iM's preview window does NOT show final pic quality
* iM is made for video on TV screen - small res interlacelimited colors...
* avoid high contrasts and serif-fonts...
* "dpi" is for print only.. has no effect on computer/TV displays...

besides:
... I wanted to add a picture ...in final cut pro ...
why not asking there...?
