Pages document

I have been writing something with Pages, and I have put pictures in it, the file is now around 700mb. It was all fine until yesterday, after saving, I wanted to reopen it to add more pictures or words, I couldn't open it, no error message appeared, it's just the Page app hung in there, stuck. Is it because it's too big? I've searched solution, I'm able to copy everything from Preview but I cannot amend the texts because it would only become a picture file. I'm using OS X El Capitan. Please help.

"Pages document" is so perfectly descriptive.

You haven't said what version of Pages you are using or why the document has grown to such an enormous size. The image files are too large and not trimmed?

Try opening Pages with the shift key down. Possibly your document is damaged or you do not have enough RAM, (you didn't say).

These forums are full of warnings against using Pages, particularly Pages 5.x, for any large, critical or professional work.

It is what it is, and "so far so good" is fine, until it isn't.

I believe the document is so large because of the pictures I've put in it. I'm not very good at computer, especially for Mac, I'm new to Macbook Air btw.

I'm using Pages 5.6. Opening Pages app directly is totally fine, but I still cannot open the file. Every time I double click my file and try to open it, nothing happens, and at last I have to force quit Pages app.

I'm thinking if I should transform my Pages document to Word format and so I can continue my work in Windows. Or will it fix automatically if I reinstall Pages app... Sigh, what can I do to bring my file back to life!

No version of Word on the Mac, or PC can directly open a Pages .pages document. It must first be exported to Word format — if you can open it. In your case, only Pages v5.6, or Preview can open native .pages documents. Close all other applications that you have started, reboot your machine, and then try with just Pages running. There are other ways to open a document in Pages, separate from the icon double-click. Try them.

The default file format with Pages v5.5.3 and onwards is a single-file format document. It would seem to me that if you used the File menu : Advanced : Change File Type : Single File / Package menu structure, then you know how to change it from a package folder back to a single file format document. Don't forget to choose Save after you make this change.

If you didn't use the provided Pages v5.6 manu structure to change that file from single-file format to a package folder, and used instructions from some web site instead, you have likely damaged your Pages document.
