Q: G5 chimes on startup then displays black screen

My G5 had been working fine but now on startup all I get is the chime and then a black screen. Tried a different monitor, still the same. Replaced PRAM battery, still the same. Will not start in target disc mode. There is no flashing, to suggest a memory problem. Any ideas? Could it possibly be the graphics/video card?

Transferring the HDD to any PM G5 should work, but an identical model should leave you with some spare parts.

Did it. I transfered the hard drives to a slightly older but almost identical G5 and to my delight everything seems as normal, all the installed software still seems to work. I am surprised I didn't have to reinstall anything. The G5 that died must have had a motherboard problem I think. I lifted the lower processor out as it suggested in the manual, but this had no effect. Also swapping graphics cards didn't work.

Yes I have lots of spare parts now I guess.

    Thanks for your support.

Glad to hear things are basically fine... good luck!
