Photos disappeared after upgrading

Dear all,

It was an accident of losing all my photos in iCloud. I hadn't upgraded my iPad2 for about 2 years before I did an upgrade a few days ago. The reason of doing this was becasue I accidently dropped my iphone in water which was unfortunately completely broken, so I got an iphone 6s instead, but then I had trouble sharing all the photos from iPad to iphone through iCloud. After googling this problem, people suggested to upgrade iPad as it was an too early IOS version, so I upgraded it to the latest version, and found nearly all my photos disappeared except 6 were still there. It was a shock, all my photos taken during last two years were gone. I also tried to log in iCould.com, and there was no doubt no old photos but all the recent ones. Before my old iphone was broken, I alway relyed on iCould to share photos between ipad and iphone. It's just weird losing photos after upgrading the device, I used to believe iCould was a safe way keeping things.

So I am writing here and wishing if anyone has any suggestion for me? I really want to have those photos back, I assume people know how awful it is losing photos. Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Jane

Hey Jane,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I can imagine that it would be very frustrating to lose all of your photos on your devices. Try taking a look at the article linked below and running through the troubleshooting steps that it provides.

Get help finding missing information in iCloud after restoring an iOS device - Apple Support

Your photos

In iOS 8.1 or later with iCloud Photo Library turned on, your photos and videos are stored in iCloud. They aren’t included in your iCloud backup. After you restore your device, connect to Wi-Fi and turn on iCloud Photo Library by going to Settings > iCloud > Photos. Your photos and videos will begin to download.

If you’re using iOS 8.1 or later and haven’t turned on iCloud Photo Library, or if you’re using iOS 7, iCloud backup includes photos and videos in your Photo Library or Camera Roll. They’ll download to your iOS device when you restore.

  • Photos in My Photo Stream are already stored in iCloud, so they aren’t part of your backup. iCloud stores the photos that you uploaded to My Photo Stream for 30 days. To keep these photos on your device and make them part of your backups, save these photos to your Photo Library, Camera Roll, or another album.
  • To view a My Photo Stream album, make sure My Photo Stream is turned on in Settings (If you use iCloud Photo Library, the My Photo Stream folder is removed).
  • To recover photos that originally synced to your device from your computer, sync your device using iTunes on a computer.
  • To restore Photo Library (or Camera Roll) photos to an iPhone or iPod touch, the iCloud backup must be from an iPhone or iPod touch. To restore Photo Library (or Camera Roll) photos to an iPad, the iCloud backup must be from an iPad.

Also, you may want to try restoring the iPad from a backup as described here:

Take care.
