How to save size and position of window that app opens in

Sometime during the past week, I had Calendar open so that it vertically covered the top half of the screen, and the entire screen from left to right.

Now I'm finding that, whenever I open it, it reopens to this window size and position. This occurs even though I resize it each time before closing it.

Is there a command I can use to save the size and position that I want the window to appear as whenever I open this app (or, for that matter, any other app)?

Thanks,

Thanks. From poking around a bit on the web, I found a discussion on getting the system to flush the caches. While there isn't an explicit command to do this, one comment stated that the caches appear to flush when a user logs out (not shuts down the computer).

So I moved the .plist file to the desktop, logged myself out, and for good measure shut down the machine. I then started the machine and logged on. Now when I started Calendar, it came up with a welcome screen as if it were being used for the first time. It then displayed my calendar window in a more default size (more or less full-screen, but brought in somewhat on all sides). I then resized it to my preferred size and location, and closed Calendar. Now when I restart, it opens at my preferred size and location. So, case solved. Thanks again for the help.

Quit Calendar.

Find the com.apple.ical.plist file in your user/Library/Preferences folder.

Move it to the Desktop.

Start Calendar.

If that fixes it, you'll have to reset all of your preferences for Calendar.

If not, you can move the file back to where it was, overwriting the new one that was generated there.

If you are having trouble finding it, triple-click the following line, then right-click and select Reveal in Finder from the Services menu.

If you don't see that in services, copy the line and paste it into the Go to Folder dialog in Finder (Go menu)

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ical.plist

Thanks, I exited from Calendar, then from the desktop I held down the option key, and from the menu at the top of the screen selected Go > Library > Preferences, found the file com.apple.iCal.plist and moved it to the desktop, then restarted Calendar. Unfortunately this didn't fix the problem. I therefore copied the file back into the preferences folder, overwriting the new one that had been generated.

Are there any other suggestions for steps to try? Could it make any difference that Calendar on this Macbook is linked to a Microsoft Exchange calendar server? I wouldn't mind unlinking it, deleting all its data, then letting it rebuild from scratch if that could fix this.

No, that would not help. The window settings are stored in preferences, but the OS caches preference settings, so it seems to be hit or miss with trying some of the old tricks to get them to reset.
