In preproduction testing, Apple achieved 6.5 hours of battery life in its Workout Test, which used Apple Watch for a workout session recorded via the Workout app, including use of the heart rate sensor.

When recording long walks or runs via the Workout app, you can turn on Power Saving Mode to disable the heart rate sensor and preserve battery life (this may result in less accurate calorie burn calculations).
To do this, on your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Workout - turn on Power Saving Mode.
You could also use a Bluetooth chest strap paired to your watch, instead of using the built-in heart rate sensor.

Nov 1, 2015 4:23 PM in response to 2mayaby Ron Goodman1,It's monitoring your pulse continually in any of the workout modes, so it's obviously going to drain the batteries more quickly. As others have mentioned, you shouldn't expect much more than 6.5 hours of battery life in Workout mode, which is actually pretty impressive.
