All of a sudden my mail account doesn't show recent emails. I downloaded El Capitan recently but I'm not sure if this is related. All server and mail account details are corrected in place. Does anyone know how to fix this?

So check the box of show most recent message at the top .
My computer was hiding some recent emails. I learned that Mail automatically collapses messages into threads, so earlier messages may be hidden until one clicks on "show more from ....." Find that link at the bottom left of the email. (Mac OS X 10.11, mail 9.3)

I understand that you appear to be missing some email messages after upgrading your Mac to OS X 10.11. If you haven't already, updating OS X to 10.11.1 can help get Mail to show the messages that appear to have gone missing.
