Apple TV 4 keeps asking for my password when playing my music

Every time I try to play my music in the music app on my new AppleTV 4 I keep getting prompted to sign in to the iTunes Store. Not just once, but continually. It is really frustrating trying to play the music I own, only to be prompted over and over again to sign in. Anyone else having this issue? I have set the ATV not to ask for passwords when making purchases, but this doesn't seem to be the issue. I am only trying to play the music I own. I have cloud music and iTunes Match turned on for all my devices. Can't make heads or tails of this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

HI there Wayne J,

It sounds like you are constantly being prompted for your password when playing anything in the Music app on your Apple TV. I would quit the Music app first and then restart the device:

Get help with third-party apps on your Apple TV

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200072

If you have an Apple TV (4th generation), double press the Home button and swipe left or right to find the app with the issue. Swipe up on the app to close it and press Menu to return to the Home screen. Then reopen the app.

... restart your Apple TV.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Thanks for your reply, Brett. I have tried that, but no luck so far. I have also tried closing all other apps, and reopening the music app. Usually it gets hung up after playing the first song, and I can't proceed any further unless I either keep entering my iTunes username and password or completely restart the appletv. When it does restart I usually get a message that says unable to purchase. But I am not trying to purchase anything. Just trying to play my already purchased music from my iCloud. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the update!

Next I would suggest restoring your Apple TV since that is the next step in the software troubleshooting process:

Restore Apple TV

http://help.apple.com/appletv/#/atvbf9db0a52

Restore Apple TV. Do the following:

  • In Settings User uploaded file, go to System > Reset, then select Restore. Restoring Apple TV can take some time, so be patient.

  • If Apple TV still doesn’t respond, disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV. Connect one end of a USB-C cable (sold separately) to Apple TV and the other end to your computer. Open iTunes on your computer, select Apple TV in the Source list, then select Restore.

Comprehensive support information is also available online at www.apple.com/support/appletv.

If that doesn't work and the issue persists then I would next reach out to AppleCare for additional assistance:

Thanks for the reply, sterling r! I really didn't want to lose all the apps I downloaded, and all the settings for the services I connected like Netflix and Hulu, but I bit the bullet and did the restore. Thankfully, it worked for me! Hope they come up with an update that fixes this soon, as well as an updated remote app and the ability to use my iMac keyboard to enter info. That text string is getting old real fast. Thanks again for the help. This solved my problem.

Same issue here I think. I joined Apple Music last week, played it on my new Apple TV 4 for the last week. Today, all of a sudden I have no more access to "For You"; my Apple Music listing. I am confused how to get it back. I am logged into ITunes but no longer can access Apple Music.

Oh, I refuse to restart everything as I already have other issues with gaming apps not working. 64BG model if that matters. Other apps work.
