Q: send jpg file as an attachment, not embedded in rich text email

I need to send jpgs to people as an attachment for work, but mail always embeds them even when send windows friendly attachments is clicked.

Is the only way possible is to change my settings to plain text ? This is a pain switching between the two for different emails and also in this day and age surely you should be able to send a photo as an attachment like in other email clients?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

1.) AttachmentTamer plug-in is no longer being supported, but may do what you need still.

    Have not tried myself, however:

2.) Quit Mail if it is running.

In Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities/) paste the following command:

defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes

To revert back to the default behavior use the following command:

defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool false

        Relaunch Mail.

3.) Another alternative is always zip your photos before you attach them. control click on your image>Compress

Thanks for the info, will give it a go. So basically your saying there is no easy way to just attach a photo? I can't believe that Apple can't enable this as a default and make everyone's life easier!

There is a Terminal command which will cause the attachments to not be embedded, but the problem is the receiver's e-mail program controls how the attachment is displayed. Leroy's zip idea works or you can put the attachment in a folder and attach the folder.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
