itunes backed up data Apple PC --> iphone 6 issues

Hello everyone,

My gf recently went to get a new iphone 6 (her old iphone 6 has a badly cracked screen). Before she went, she backed up her old phone's data in itunes on her computer (and she had done previously with no issues in the past). When she came home and tried to transfer her backed up data from itunes to new phone, it wouldn't allow her and said she must install latest version of itunes. Does this mean she will lose her backed up data (or that it will be stuck in limbo) if she installs the latest version?

I have found no really useful information on this particular issue, so any help would be appreciated.

iTunes should not delete the backup info stored on the PC. Just to be sure, include the iPhone backup folder in your backup routine or copy the folder to a safe place before you start updating iTunes.

Thanks for the advice. Just to be clear, she backed up her original iphone's data on the old version of itunes on her computer.

The newer version of iTunes will not change the location or content of the backup folder. And all other settings, like Apple account info or similar, will also stay the same. But it is not a bad idea to have a backup of that folder, just in case something goes wrong during the install process.

Thanks, I've passed this on to her. She will be contacting the apple store she got the phone from tomorrow to also see what they say. I'll post an update here on how things go for her.
